Deacon Adrien Chaput was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Pembroke at St. Columbkille’s Cathedral, Pembroke on May 10, 2008. For Deacon Chaput it was a joyous occasion to be celebrated with Bernadette, his wife of 26 years, his daughter Melanie and his parents, Dorice and Rebecca Chaput.
As a deacon, he is called to be a servant—as the Gospel mandates to all God’s people. He assists the Bishop and priests at the altar as a disciple of Christ who came not to be served but to serve. He is mandated to proclaim the Gospel and preach the homily when scheduled. He also assists in the preparation and celebration of baptisms, marriages and funeral liturgies. In the mission of charity, he has also been assigned as the Spiritual Advisor for St. Vincent de Paul St. Columbkille Conference.
“My greatest joy is serving the Lord and his people,” said Deacon Chaput. “I love to meet people where they are on this pilgrimage of life and share with them the love, mercy and compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am very conscious of what St. Francis of Assisi said to his followers as he urged them to ‘proclaim the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.’ Every day I thank God for calling me to serve in this way and I am grateful to my parents and all those who led me in the teachings and ways of our Catholic faith.”
