MESSAGES FROM FATHER JIM

In your prayers kindly remember the sick and those who care for them, the lonely, the handicapped, those isolated, and those who have died especially Violet Cliché and Aurel St Godard.

INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY –Christ and the Emarginated: Leprosy in antiquity put one on the periphery of society. Contact was Limited; normal social intercourse was prohibited. But it is precisely to people such as these – the unwanted, the lepers, the poor, the prostitutes, the tax collectors – that Jesus saw his mission principally directed. Today’s liturgy gives us a very striking example. In our human conduct, even that which is licit, Paul today exhorts us to avoid giving offense.

FROM THE RECTOR’S DESKWe begin this week, with the solemn observance of Ash Wednesday, the holy and privileged season of Lent. Lent has two major purposes: It recalls or prepares for baptism, and emphasizes a spirit of penance. Through forty days of closer attention to God’s word and more fervent prayer. We prepare to celebrate the paschal mystery.

On Ash Wednesday, there will be two Masses, at 12:10 p.m. and at 7:15 p.m. Mass with the distribution of ashes. As well, we will pray the Station of the Cross Friday evenings 6:30 p.m. There will be no Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament of devotions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Ash Wednesday.

You will find on the tables at the entrances PRAYERS MEDITATION BOOKLETS for Lent. We encourage you to take one home and use it as a part of your Lenten program.

Pope’s Prayer Intention for February 2021: We pray for women who are victims of violence, that they may be protected by society and have their sufferings considered and heeded.
