4th Sunday of Advent – Sunday, December 19th, 2021

In your prayers kindly remember the sick and those who care for them, the lonely, the handicapped, those isolated, and those who have died, especially Carmelle Mulroy.

INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY Humble Origins Luke’s account of Mary’s trip to visit Elizabeth offers another opportunity to link Jesus and John., while always stressing John’s subordination. In this simple domestic setting, Elizabeth praises Mary for her trust in God’s word. Micah anticipated the unborn Savior of the visitation story centuries before. Preaching at a time of considerable sin and corruption, he looked to the Davidic king who, despite his simple origins, would establish an era of universal peace. The letter to the Hebrews touches the core of what brought about that fulfilment of God’s plan: the obedience of Jesus.

FROM THE ANTIPHONS – December 19th – O Root of Jesse

O radix Jesse, qui stas in signum populorum,

super quem continebunt reges os suum,

quem Gentes deprecabuntur:

veni ad liberandum nos, jam noli tardare.

O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign among the peoples;

before you kings will shut their mouths,

to you the nations will make their prayer:

Come and deliver us, and delay no longer.
