33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday, November 14th, 2021

In your prayers kindly remember the sick and those who care for them, the lonely, the handicapped, those isolated, and those who have died.

INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY Theme: The Final WordAs the liturgical year draws to a close, the church traditionally has directed our attention to the end of history. The first reading from Daniel and Mark’s account of Jesus’ end -time discourse address this question from different perspectives. In both cases the scenario centers on God’s final word. In the meantime, as the author of Hebrews reminds us, Christ, our high priest in the sanctuary above, continues to intercede for us.

FROM THE RECTOR’S DESK   The renovations have started in earnest.  The abatement process will soon start and much of the original construction from the 1880s will soon be revealed.  Much of the framing consists of 3-inch rough-cut hemlock.  Really a remarkable building with many ingenious carpentry skills employed.  The carpenters presently at work are impressed by the capabilities of those who erected the rectory so many years back without the benefit of the materials and equipment which we take for granted today.  The building is in good condition overall and when the renovations are finally done it will reflect the best of the past as well as the present.  The integration of the two will symbolize in many ways the history of the Diocese and our future hopes.  I ask, again, for your patience with me, with the parking as well as with the parish staff who have worked admirably to prevent any delays in the services which the Cathedral Parish provides.  Thank you for your support and encouragement during this time.

Mass for Persecuted Christians – RED WEDNESDAY: Many Christians throughout the world suffer persecution because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Atrocities against Christians cannot be forgotten. For example, since 2003, the number of Christians in Iraq has dropped from 1.3 million to less than 200,000. There were once 1.7 million Christians in Syria and now there are only about 450,000 remaining. The Aid to the Church in Need estimates that as great as 75% of all religious persecution is committed against Christians. Bishop Desrochers will celebrate Mass for Persecution Christians at St. Columbkille Cathedral on Wednesday November 17, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
