MESSAGE FROM FATHER JIM

Welcome back to St. Columbkille’s Cathedral and our regularly scheduled masses.   In your prayers kindly remember the sick and those who care for them, the lonely, the handicapped, those isolated, and those who have died.

Theme for June 28th – Hospitality
It is not the Lord’s emissaries who are praised in today’s first and third reading, but rather those who show kindness to them.  The hospitality shown to the prophet guest by the Shunammite woman is rewarded with the birth of a much desired child.  Matthew’s gospel is speaking of church leaders congratulates those who offer them even the ordinary kindnesses.  Continuing our reading from the Romans, we are today reminded that our baptism into the dead and risen Christ should reflect itself in our lives through death to sin and life for God.

A sincere thank you for your weekly donations during the COVID 19 pandemic. Your donations are gratefully appreciated.

We now have a website for St. Columbkille’s Cathedral.  It is accessed at: ww.cathedralparish.ca for your information.

Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney

Pope Francis has approved the promulgation of a decree recognizing a miracle attributed to the intercession of the founder of the Knights of Columbus, Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney. The pope’s action means that Father McGivney can be declared “Blessed,” the step just prior to sainthood. Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882, for the purpose of uniting Catholic families in fraternal charity and ensuring their financial protection through the Order’s insurance program. Today, the Knights of Columbus is a worldwide charitable organization and one of the strongest and most ethical insurers in North America, playing a pivotal role in the Catholic Church by means of its pro-life and evangelization efforts, and has benefited the lives of many throughout the Diocese of Pembroke.

My prayerful thoughts to our young people graduating and moving on from Cathedral School or from Bishop Smith Catholic High School to further their education.  I congratulate you and wish you continued success in your academic pursuits.  Also, your parents and teachers and those involved with your educational journey, I extend my gratitude to you as well.
